Cider Monday

It's another Monday and that means I have another cider to share with you. Today we are taking a trip down the rabbit hole.

The Pierre Le Popielno Blanc is a cider made using 100% Sturner Pippin apples. Bought over to Australia in the 19th Century due to the fruits longevity once off the tree, making them fantastic for exporting, they are said to be sharp and robust fresh but once matured develop a nice sweetness. They are often described as a dessert apple. The apples for this cider are grown right here in the Adelaide Hills, which if you haven't had a chance to explore then I highly recommend, it is such a beautiful part of South Australia.

It is very satisfying to pop the cork open on this bottle and hear the slight "hisssss" of the carbonation. The cider is a beautiful light amber colour, like warm sunshine. A strong apple smell burst forth in your nose with an undertone of fermented fruit, hints of sugar but not what I would call sweetness. The flavour is bright, bursting fourth on your tongue and with enough tartness to make the back of my jaw tingle. A good amount of bubbles bring a real pop to the cider and while it was a little tarter then I was expecting, I really enjoy it. This cider would be amazing with a wide variety of food wether it be salty, spicy or even a nice rich roast meat the combinations are endless. It is also a fantastic cider to drink on its own and shared between friends.
