Weekend Wine

The weekend is a time for friends, families and lovers to come together and enjoy each others company. It's also the time to enjoy some good wine. The Adelaide Hills, while warmish one day, is starting to show its colder side and with rain predicted, nothing is better then a big glass of red while you are curled up on the couch. This weekend I opened up a bottle of the 2013 Gusto Mama Sangiovese. A collaboration wine between the Kinda Independent Wine Co and Vinomofo.

This wine has a beautiful red colour with a hint of rusted brown on the edges. Like a cherry but there is a bruise and so a slight brown tinge appears. On the nose it is deep and rich filled with spices and an undercurrent of red fruits such as cherry. These are subtle until the wine is swirled around in the glass and then the fruits comes to life with the spices taking a back seat. I could sit and smell this wine all day long. Once this wine hits your tongue cinnamon, cherries and stewed plums are present. The tannins are subtle and well rounded, making this medium bodied wine easy to drink on its own or with food.

Curl up on the couch with a pizza, or a bowl of pasta with a rich tomato sauce and a big glass of the Gusto Mama Sangiovese and your evening will be set. You can also share this with friends and family, it would be a hit at any dinner party. This is a great introduction wine for those who are hesitant about reds and I urge you to try it.
