Mad for Riesling

If you haven't been to Clare Valley in South Australia, then I highly recommend you visit ASAP! Phenomenal wine, mind blowing food and warm welcoming locals. I could spend weeks on end exploring everything Clare has to offer. My partner and I went for a short three day holiday in January of 2016 and I've been dreaming of the time we could go again. We visited 13 wineries and still had many we wanted to visit but didn't want to rush the experience.

One of the more memorable visits was to Mad Bastard Wines. We rocked up around midday and were greeted by a young man in a dressing gown, with a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice. He proceeded to give us the entire wine tasting while still in his dressing gown (I personally thought this was hilarious, and fits right in with just how mad,  Mad Bastards really is) finishing off his cereal and orange juice. I couldn't have asked for a better way to be introduce to Mad Bastard wines. We bought a selection back with us but I'm choosing to just focus on their 2015 Riesling.

The wine is pale straw in colour, whilst on the nose it is bright, zingy and bursting with lemon and lime. Acidity makes itself known as soon as you take a sip. Your mouth starts watering, your jaw behind your ears tingles pleasantly and you just cant stop drinking it. This isn't a sweet wine. It is zesty, punchy and makes no apologies. Crisp grapefruit and lemon come through on the palate.  Perfect chilled, with spicy food or just on its own. You would have to be mad to pass up the opportunity to try this.

They may not take themselves very seriously but boy they take their wine seriously.

Head over to their website and buy some of their wine right now and absolutely go to Clare and visit their Cellar Door.
